Welcome to the new home of LGD Communications, where you may notice that we update and redesign our site fairly often. While part of the reason we switch things around from time to time is to keep our designers on their toes making fresh content for visitors, it’s also about testing out new design concepts and conversion tools.
One design concept is something called “Responsive Web Design.”
Smartphones, tablets and eReaders are becoming more and more important to marketers and business owners
Seven to 10 years ago there was no need to worry about how your site looked on an iPhone or an iPad – they weren’t even invented yet. Today, however, ComScore reports that more than 111 MILLION mobile users are browsing the web on their mobile devices. You now have to think and plan ahead for how your site will look when your consumers visit your site on literally dozens of different devices each day.
That’s where responsive web design comes in. The concept behind responsive web design is fairly simple: Make your website automatically adapt and scale to any device or browser resolution you view it on. In practice, it’s quite a bit more complicated.
Try It Out
Still not sure what responsive web design is all about or why it’s important? Give it a try! We’ve designed our new site to be totally responsive to any device out there – at least until the next tech on the market comes out to play.
Just visit http://lgdcom.com on your iPad, iPhone, MacBook, Android/Blackberry device, eReader, library terminal, etc. While the content presented is the same, you’ll see that each screen size has been custom designed to fit the device you’re viewing it on.
Why Is Responsive Web Design Important For Business?
If your business is something that caters to people constantly on the go (business professionals viewing content on their iPad during an international flight, for instance), you need a website that can cater to your audience. Having a static site that isn’t mobile friendly is making you miss out on valuable leads and opportunities from that audience.
You’re also missing out on the wave of new ways to market your product, like integrating with social media channels and apps or using QR codes on promotional swag (like tchotchkes!).
Making it Happen
We could go into the details of how to make your site responsive, like making sure you have a grid-friendly theme that scales well, thinking ahead for all media queries and development platforms or telling you how to program your CSS to make the correct programming requests – but we have a feeling it would be better if you just gave us a call.
